Tanto Knife
2017
In early 2017, partially inspired by the YouTube series Man At Arms, I made a tanto style knife using a stock removal method.
Starting with a 6mm thick bar of tool steel, then grinding the shape, bevelling with a linisher, heat treating and then finishing. The handle is made from rosewood, with a mahogany top section, and the mosaic pins were made with two sizes of brass tube and black resin.
I then made the sheath by wet forming and stitching veg tanned leather. I didn't add a higher belt loop as the sheath is more intended as a case to keep the knife in, as the knife itself is more decorative than anything due to the relatively thin edge caused by the steep bevel, however in my first year away from home at uni I've found its very good for cooking with.
